Starke is often recognized for its strawberries and agricultural ties. With an annual Strawberry Festival and the Bradford County Agricultural Fair, Starke is a successful agricultural community that boasts farmers growing crops from hay to deer! Starke is also very well known for the Florida Department of Corrections. Many residents are or were employed by the FDOC and have held prosperous careers over the years. To all of our first responders and correctional staff, we thank you!
In November 1857, the first post office in the area was established by George W. Cole. In 1859, Cole obtained 40 acres of land around the post office, which were described in his documents as the "Original Town of Starke." Often known for the electric chair (aka Ol' Sparky) in the Department of Corrections, Starke continues to grow and thrive to this day. Our small town has more to offer than just a rusty old chair, so come check us out!!
If you're looking to have a good time, Starke boasts a low-cost movie theater, multiple bars, restaurants, and events for every season! Take a stroll through the Historic Downtown Starke once you've enjoyed all the sights. Don't mind the uneven brick roads, we love them here!
