History

In 1838, the community was initially called Ward City, which was named after an early settler, E. P. Ward.  On August 24, 1894, Ward City was renamed Brooker by their first postmaster, Thomas R. Collins.  He named the town and its postal office Brooker after the old Brooker Bridge located across the Santa Fe River, which was named after a

Collins.  He named the town and its postal office Brooker after the old Brooker Bridge located across the Santa Fe River, which was named after an early local farmer, Mr. Ed Brooker.  The Town of Brooker was incorporated as a municipality in 1952.
